Shayana Ekadashi – Toli Ekadashi

Today (July 12, 2019, this year) is an auspicious occasion for us. It is the Sleeping Ekadashi on which day, God Vishnu starts his sleep and keeps sleeping for the entire period of 4 months.

It is believed that Vishnu sleeps from the eleventh day of the month of Ashada till the eleventh day of the month of Kartik which is a four-month period. One year for human beings is equal to one day for celestial beings. As per that calculation, 8 hours of sleep comes to a 4 month period. So, God is taking his 8-hour sleep during this period.

People observe this occasion by worshiping Lord Narayan and Devi Lakshmi every day with special austerity and by keeping fast on each first Ekadashi of all the four months during this period.

The devotees throng the temples of God Vishnu and his other forms. Special pujas take place in those temples. In Maharashtra, Pandharpur Vithal Swamy is famous where people of all creeds get together and participate in processions during these days.

So, wish you all Lord Narayan and Goddess Lakshmi’s blessings.

Happy Basant Panchami and Valentines Day

Hi, Dear Friends,

It’s the Indian Festival of Basant Panchami on 10/02/2019 which is also celebrated as a Valentine Day by young people.

It is the celebration of welcoming the spring season. Spring season enters in some of our regions at this time even though it is still much cold in most parts of India. Nature gets decorated in yellow color with the blooming mustard flowers all over those fields at this time.

Goddess Saraswati (or even Parvati, Lakshmi) are worshiped on this occasion by adoring them with yellow clothes and, white and yellow flowers. Younger generations celebrate it with their friends expressing their love towards each other.

Devotees visit temples wearing yellow clothes and worship the Goddess offering yellow food dishes as offering to Her along with the yellow flowers.

And, parents with younger children celebrate the occasion by introducing their children to the learning of vocabulary and schooling. The function is known as “Aksharabhyasam” wherein the child is made to draw some vowel on a slate with the chalk amid puja done to the Goddess either by the parents themselves or through a Pandit. Neighboring children are also invited on this occasion and gifts like pencils, pens or color-boxes distributed to them.

Any kind of festival is celebrated by inviting relatives, friends, or neighbors and it is enjoyed by all the participants jointly. Festivals are always occasions for spreading love, culture, generosity, and humanity among people.

So, let us spread the message of love to all humanity on this occasion.

Be kind and generous to all alike discarding hate or jealousy at any being. Let us love humanity as it is without drawing any differences between them.

As you all know, Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus, the son of God.

God has gifted us his own son to protect us from all the troubles of life and to lead us towards Light by dispelling the darkness of ignorance and sin.

Jesus has taught us to love all humanity and other beings on earth.

He has taught us to pardon people in spite of their wrong deeds and shortcomings.

He has taught us to be generous by introducing Santa who gives away gift always.

So, we should practice all these habits in our daily lives and be always helpful and noble in our thoughts and deeds.

This is a wonderful occasion to be thankful for so many blessings and bounties from  Nature and God. We witness and experience so many beautiful and blissful scenes and events occurring around us for which we need to be always grateful to God. Even though we may be witnessing some negative experiences also in our lives, treat them as the unavoidable rules of nature and try to be always optimistic and hope for good times ahead.

Let us count all those positive points for which we need to be thankful to God.

Express thanks for the life we are gifted with.

Be thankful for the air we breathe in, the sunlight that we enjoy, the blue skies, the glowing and blinking stars, and the blue seas that we witness, the wonderful bounty of nature, the birds flying and singing, the good people around you, and everything in our life.

Express thanks to your parents, teachers, friends, and all neighbors around, and the whole humanity for the Love, Care, and Support you receive.

Happy Mother’s Day | Celebrate With True Love

mother's day

Mother’s Day is a worthy and welcome event that has been designed by the nice efforts of Anna Jarvis long ago in 1908 when she celebrated this event for the first time in the year 1908 in ST. Andrew’s Methodist Church, Grafton, West Virginia to pay tributes and gratitude to her own mother who had been a peace activist caring and nursing the wounded soldiers during the American Civil War. She died in the year 1905. But, Anna Jarvis was very fond of her mother and her social work. So, she continued her work of welfare activities and campaigned for the recognition of a special day to be set for celebrating as Mother’s Day from 1905 itself. Her efforts gave fruits when President Woodrow Wilson declared the Second Sunday of every May to be celebrated as Mother’s Day from the year 1914.

Anna Jarvis wanted to pay gratitude to her mother with a sincere and honest heart. She was of the opinion that a Mother’s love and sacrifice for her family or the entire humanity can never be evaluated with anything in the world. So, everybody should be indebted and grateful to her. That gratitude should be celebrated by honoring and respecting the Mother, if not daily, at least yearly. That was the reason for establishing this Mother’s Day event.

But, people began commercializing this event. The business-minded took advantage of the feelings of people and introduced varying products to make profits. Everything has become artificial now. The true feeling of love and attachment are not found through these commercialized products. It has become a token of gratitude but not the true gratitude and love that a mother might be wanting.

So, I feel the need for celebrating this event in a more personal way. A true expression of love and gratitude does not require all these Mother’s Cards and precious Gifts.

True love and care for your mother are expressed when you sit with her and talk sweetly with her, offer home-made food to her by sitting by her side and serving the food with your own hands with true love.

Spend a little time daily with your mother and give attention to her. Keep her healthy and happy always. That is the true gift that we can provide to our mothers.
