Meditations

I am reading books nowadays, extensively.

This one book I came across recently is beautiful, “Meditations” by MarcuIMG_20190226_150910s Aurelius!

You will be stunned to know that Marcus Aurelius was a Roman Emperor some 2000 years ago. And, he practiced whatever he preached or spread among his people.

In this wonderful book that is a collection of all his preachings and revelations, Marcus shows us how to capture our desires and emotions through continuous vigil and watch of each one of our actions or thoughts and through impartial analysis of the goodness or badness of each such action or thought.

Marcus defines good acts or thoughts are those that contribute to or result in the welfare of the society and not for one’s own self.

If I perform an action or even feel something to do, I should first consider whether it contributes to the betterment and happiness of people around me. Then only I indulge in that action or perception. Otherwise, discard it.

He reminds us continuously in all his preachings that our body is just temporary. It can perish at any moment. So, one should always live in his present moment and try to use his body for performing a good job.

He always believed that God gave us this body only for carrying on his mission of keeping this universe wonderful and beautiful for all his living beings alike. So, men are provided reasoning power and the body to perform his work on his behalf. He provided us with the hands and legs and the brain for all this mission. So, carry on the mission at each moment of your life as you may not know when you will die and leave this body.

It is a very interesting book to read and to know the purpose of your life. But, you need to digest each sentence of it before proceeding further. Make up your mind to get to dive into this wonderful knowledge of the purpose of life. It is a very short book of only 62 pages. But, full of Gems.

Yoga For Health

We celebrated the 4th International Yoga Day yesterday. Many events were organized in different parts of the world to practice Yoga on this day. One gathering at Kota in Rajasthan registered a thumping participation of 105,000 people creating a Guinness record of performing yoga at a single platform in a single day.

But, Yoga is not for a simple display of events. It should be a part of your life. Regular performance of yoga or fitness exercise is good for one’s health.

You need not indulge in rigid formats of it. Choose some simple exercises for the movements and motion of your limbs and the complete body.

Some simple exercises are:

  • Moving your neck left and right, and, up and down rhythmically.
  • Stretching your arms sideways and up and down just like it used to be taught in primary schools.
  • Jumping while stretching the arms is also good.
  • Bending your body without bending your legs and touching the tips of your feet. This can be done both front and to your sideways also. When bending towards the front, you will keep your legs in attention position. When doing it sideways, you shall keep your legs in the stand-at-ease position.
  • If you can do it, you can try to bend towards your back also. But is very hard and risky. So, I do not advise it.
  • Lay on your stomach and lift your head forward along with your entire body, balancing your weight on your hands and toes. You will stretch forward slowly and bring your front portion up keeping the backside lower. Then again, slowly bring back your back body up keeping your front portion lower. You will not be touching the floor except with your hands and toes while doing the entire process.

The above are some of those simple exercises for your body to keep yourself fit always. Do each exercise for 5 times before proceeding to the next one.

Wish you all a Healthy Life.

Death, A Silent Stealthy Attacker

All of us  know death is inevitable. Whoever is born in this world has to die. No one can escape it.  All the Medical innovations, all Scientific advancements and all Spiritual rituals , Prayers are all null at death. Whatever you may do, you can’t avoid death. Lord Krishna in Bhagavad gita emphasized this fact.

The Angel Of Death! He took my wife on 22/10/2012…
But death occurs at a time when you are unaware of it. It does not come to you straight forward. It finds some means to attack you. When you are well prepared and await for it, it does not come to you. It attacks you stealthily, when you are confident that it is not so much nearer to you, and when you are careless of it.
Because death wants some reason or some circumstance through which it can pounce upon you. It enters you through some sickness, some accident, some natural calamity, etc. so that you may think that because of this reason the death took place. Lord Krishna in bhagavad gita clearly tells Arjuna that he had slain all the Kauravas already and Arjuna’s arrows are only a medium for their physical death.
But, it is not real. Death is the destination for any person whoever comes on earth. Even God when takes avatars on the earth has to end his avatar through death like Sri Rama or Sri Krishna, the mythological Gods of Hinduism. So death is the ultimate truth. Do not get bewildered by death. If you are born, you have to die.
But Death is only for the physical form that you are in. Bhagavad-Gita clearly states that Atma in you is Eternal. It has no death. Death is only physical. As you change your clothes, you are changing your body. So be not afraid of death. Be prepared for it always and face it with a smile!
